The fruit for the Reserve Release was picked from a single block, carefully selected because of its consistency in producing high-quality Shiraz from low-yielding old vines.
The 2012 vintage is widely acknowledged as one of the best of the past decade following plentiful winter and spring rain in 2011. Consistent warm weather in January 2012 contributed to steady, even ripening and vintage started early on February 5. Warm days and cool nights meant that the fruit was picked at optimum ripeness and flavour.
The wine was made with minimal intervention, including hand plunging in open slate fermenters and basket pressing. Aged in new French oak, the wine was bottle-aged for more than 24 months before its release.
Deep colour is consistent with intense flavour and the varietal character of concentrated black fruit, seamlessly integrated with a delightful cedar, cigar-box note and velvety, fine tannins.
