Our Grenache comes from 100-year-old, dry-grown vines, which traditionally give a low yield. They are picked at high sugar levels to concentrate the variety’s berry character.
After above-average winter rains and drier conditions in spring, early summer was dry and warm, promoting good berry development. Very hot weather in January 2014 accelerated ripening and led to an earlier start to vintage in February. Heavy rain in mid-February caused little damage and the milder conditions that followed allowed ideal ripening conditions.
The Grenache is treated more gently than some of the other more robust reds, with tannin extraction. Fermentation took 10 days, with some time on skins post-ferment to capture optimum colour and flavour.
The 2014 Inigo Grenache is alive with bright fruit characters. The nose greets with delightful aromas of strawberries and raspberries. The juicy, red fruit has a savoury edge, with earthy, truffle flavours and grainy tannins.
