The mature Chardonnay vines on the gentle slopes of our Lloyd’s Farm vineyard consistently yield high-quality fruit, with cropping levels kept to moderate levels to ensure generous flavours.
While ample rain in winter and spring of 2016 laid a foundation for optimism, cooler temperatures in January and rain toward the end of the month slowed ripening in the wine regions of South Australia. It was only a burst of hot weather in early February that got things moving again. The 2017 harvest began at Sevenhill on March 1, with picking of Chardonnay at Lloyd’s Farm. Warm days and cool nights made for ideal vintage conditions during March and April, leading to outstanding fruit picked at optimum ripeness.
The 2017 Chardonnay was picked early in March and chilled before pressing. The juice was allowed to settle for five days before fermentation in stainless steel.
